FREE Park and Ride service for staff and students from Mereoak (Junction 11 of the M4)

Do you want to beat the traffic getting to University, save money and reduce air pollution?

A new FREE Park and Ride service has been launched from Mereoak (Junction 11 of the M4, RG7 1WJ). We have partnered with Reading Buses and the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust to deliver this exciting new sustainable travel option for our staff and students – who can now use the existing NHS H3 service from Mereoak. It runs from 06:25 to 18:55 Monday to Friday from junction 11 of the M4, with buses every 20 minutes at peak times.

Travel survey results show interest in sustainable travel options

The travel survey results revealed that at least 70% of all respondents who would consider alternative modes of travel live within a viable distance. The most popular alternative modes were cycling, travelling by foot or by bus / coach.

The changes that people identified which would help them to make the switch will now be included as part of the new 5 year Travel Plan, which is being led the Sustainability team. The introduction of the Park and Ride service marks a significant step to developing the range of sustainable travel options available to our University community and also supports the newly announced sustainable travel principles.

How to use the new P&R service

–           Simply show your University of Reading Campus Card to the bus driver.

–           Free parking at Mereoak is included, no permit needed.

–           Use the Christchurch Green stop for Whiteknights campus and the Royal Berkshire Hospital stop for the London Road campus.
