As an Academic Tutor, your relationship with your tutees will be focused on their academic, personal and professional development. This focus lends itself well to group meetings which can make the best use of your time, while also helping your tutees to build relationships with their peers.
Topics which could be covered in group tutorials (depending on your context) include:
- Understanding assessment criteria
- Preparing for exams
- Academic integrity
- Generic feedback on assignments
- Making the most of feedback
- Specific academic or study skills e.g. critiquing literature, structuring an essay, giving presentations, managing your time, working effectively in groups
- Thinking about careers
You can view a presentation by Amanda Millmore (School of Law) about the use of group tutorials on the T&L Conference webpage (workshop 5).
